We are pleased to share that Synoptic Data and Klimator will address the challenges of road conditions connected to unique topography and sensor infrastructure in the US by integrating data from Synoptic’s platform into Klimator’s solution RCD, Road Condition Data. The project has been funded by Vinnova via Future Mobility and provides Klimator with funding support of 500.000 SEK.

Road weather data

In the project, Klimator’s expertise in modeling road weather conditions will be amplified with Synoptics’s data expertise and data coverage. The collaboration presents a unique opportunity to create state-of-the-art road weather forecasting systems and real-time hazard detection capabilities, shaping the future of mobility, within the automotive industry. The project aims to deliver more precise, safer, and sustainable mobility solutions tailored to the diverse climates of the U.S. The project is funded by Vinnova via Future Mobility, an organization supporting collaborations between Sweden and the U.S and will run for a period of 12 months (from 2024 to 2025).

“Collaboration is key to driving innovation and tackling complex challenges. By combining the core expertise of Synoptic and Klimator, we unlock new synergies, enabling the development of solutions that would be unattainable independently. This partnership not only accelerates progress but also inspires creativity and resilience in pursuing our shared goals,” says Viktoria Bogren, Head of Business Area Automotive at Klimator.

“This project exemplifies the benefit of combining scientific and data expertise to yield new and innovative solutions. This collaboration aligns with Synoptic’s mission to provide access to environmental data to support decisions and development that help save lives, protect property, and in this case enhance our understanding of road weather and safety,” adds Brook Burghardt, PhD, Technical Business Developer at Synoptic Data.

About Road Condition Data
Road Condition Data (RCD) is a cloud-based Data-as-a-Service platform providing actionable data on current and future road weather, for proactive mobility. The RCD platform uses a combination of ruled-based algorithms, machine learning, and immense amounts of real-life road and environment data. The information enables actors within the automotive industry to enhance the driving experience, the functionality, operability, and safety of advanced driver support systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) technologies.

About Future Mobility

Future Mobility catalyzes research and innovation collaborations in sustainable mobility between the United States and Sweden.

With dedicated resources in both countries, the Future Mobility initiative works to lower the barriers to collaboration by offering three types of support to organizations in Sweden or the United States interested in partnering on sustainable mobility projects:

  • Providing inspiration and knowledge related to collaborations between Sweden and the United States
  • Offering matchmaking services to help identify relevant innovation partners
  • Guiding towards potential funding sources

A certain budget is also available for co-funding promising projects.

Future Mobility is managed by Lindholmen Science Park with support from Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency. Learn more at futuremobility.dev.
