Above the Ground: Sorcerer’s Upper-Air Network Now Available on the Synoptic Platform |

From oceans to polar regions, Sorcerer’s balloon network delivers continuous upper-air data that fills gaps in the global observing system. These observations help improve hurricane predictions, strengthen weather models, and provide critical insights for forecasters around the world. Each balloon carries a suite of sensors that capture detailed profiles of temperature, pressure, humidity, and other variables, drifting for months at a time. Sorcerer’s upper-air observations are now available to NOAA via the National Mesonet Program and on the Synoptic platform as the first balloon network in our Data Marketplace, bringing a new dimension of atmospheric data to users. |

The SayWeather network, now available on the Synoptic platform, brings detailed weather observations from small airports across North America. Each station reports 13 meteorological variables, including temperature, wind speed and direction, and cloud coverage and height, with updates every 5 minutes. Currently featuring 71 stations (plus one in Chile), this network expands access to airport-based observations that enhance data coverage and situational awareness.
