New Networks

Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative (OTEC)

OTEC is one of Oregon’s largest distribution cooperatives, providing safe, reliable electricity to nearly 60,000 residents. We’re excited to integrate 33 stations from their network into the Synoptic platform. These stations report standard weather variables every 15 minutes as well as fuel moisture and lightning strike counts. By adding this cooperative’s network, our users gain improved situational awareness, including assessment of wildfire risk, support for grid resilience, and more informed utility operations.

Black Hills Energy

Synoptic has partnered with Black Hills Energy and Western Weather Group to bring this publicly available data to the Synoptic platform. The network includes 27 stations, reporting standard meteorological variables every 10 minutes. With this network, our users gain access to more stations in the region and enhanced situational awareness for weather conditions that impact utility operations, energy infrastructure, and service reliability.

Japan Meteorological Agency

We’re excited to integrate data from the Japan Meteorological Agency’s (JMA) nationwide network into the Synoptic platform. JMA operates over 1,200 stations across Japan, providing high-resolution weather data with an average station spacing of 17 km (10.5 miles). These stations measure air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, snow depth, wind speed and direction, visibility, and pressure. Users can monitor weather conditions throughout Japan for applications such as forecasting, research, and other environmental monitoring.
