# Synoptic Data

> Synoptic Data is a Public Benefit Corporation that provides real-time and historical weather observations from 170,000+ stations across 320+ public and private networks in 100+ countries, delivered through the Weather API, the Synoptic Data Viewer, and other related tools. Synoptic is a data provider for the National Weather Service's National Mesonet Program.

Synoptic focuses on in-situ weather observations from physical stations and sensors (mesonets, road weather, fire weather/RAWS, airports, utilities, buoys, and private networks), delivered in real time with quality control, rather than model or gridded forecast data.
