Applied Backend Data Scientist


Help design, develop and implement software to enhance Synoptic’s data access, storage, analytics and data mining capabilities. Other tasks may include enhancing the data API for geospatial scientific data or to design and develop applications to facilitate large data acquisition and dissemination using cloud computing services.

Minimum requirements: B.S. degree with computer programming experience related to solving scientific computing problems involving large data sets. Preferred: Familiarity with several of the following data integration and systems development technologies: Python, relational databases, API development and methodologies, software version control, cloud computing services. Candidate must be self-driven, accountable under minimal supervision to reach project goals, and comfortable working in a research environment with other employees locally and remotely. Salary commensurate with experience. Employment location is with the Synoptic staff in Salt Lake City, UT.

 

API & Data Services Developer


Help design, develop and implement software to enhance research and development of Synoptic’s API services and data mining capabilities, including the design and development of applications to facilitate large data dissemination. Candidate must be self-driven, accountable under minimal supervision to reach project goals, and comfortable working in a research environment with other employees.

Minimum requirements: B.S. degree with computer programming experience; a strong grasp of python and modern web languages (HTML, CSS, JS); familiarity with relational databases (MySQL) and software version control. Preferred: Demonstrated experience in software development (point us to your github, apps, or web pages); knowledge of API development and methodologies (mostly REST). Employment location is with the Synoptic staff in Salt Lake City, UT.

 

Sales and Business Development Specialist

 

Synoptic Data Public Benefit Corporation is looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our sales and business development team. This rapidly growing start-up has made a name for itself in data aggregation for weather and other environmental data and requires a self-starter that is able to successfully navigate both the business and science worlds. The person filling this position will work directly with existing and potential customers to identify and articulate their requirements, manage proposals and contracts, work with the technical staff to bring required capabilities on line, and keep senior managers fully briefed on all activities and issues.

 

Minimum Requirements: B.S. degree (M.S. or higher preferred) with exposure to business, scientific, and communications concepts. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in a sales/marketing/business development space as well as a strong working knowledge of meteorology and/or another natural science field. Experience in computer programming, numerical analysis, Big Data concepts, and government contracts and government affairs is a plus but not required. Extremely strong candidates without significant work experience will be considered for entry level positions. Strong written, verbal, and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) skills are required. Candidate must be self-driven, accountable under minimal supervision to reach project goals, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, flexible, and distributed work environment. Some travel will be required.  Salary commensurate with experience. Employment location is possible at Synoptic Data offices in one of several desirable locations including Santa Cruz CA, Salt Lake City UT, or Hampton Roads VA.
